Once again I set out to do battle Hunger Games style… well not really that kind of battle, no one died BUT we did end up going head to head to benefit the Creston Neighborhood Association. Art Battle for the Community is an event put on by local writer/artist Tommy Allen and features artists from in and around the neighborhood. The event is held every year at the Sazerac Lounge and is really the art event of all art events. Artists donate their time for community togetherness and every dollar that is raised goes back to benefit Creston. Art Battle also is an event that I get to put down my camera and pick up a paintbrush… for one night I’m not “the photographer” at the event, on Art Battle night I get to talk, mingle, and paint my heart out. I look forward to this time away from my camera every year and I will be back next year. Kuddos to Tommy, the Neighborhood Association, the Volunteers, the Art Buyers/Crowd, and all the artists who came out and represented. Creston is really the neighborhood of all neighborhoods in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I’m glad to call it home.

My inner fan boy wants to marry this piece of graffiti… then play some X-Box in my parents basement with it. Batman and Robin FTW!

Today I want to talk about the “Number One” rule in photography… the Rule of Thirds. Understanding the Rule of Thirds is not only part of good composition, but it is the starting point of what makes a good photo leap that extra step.
So what if you are a rules are made to be broken kind of person? It is my opinion that even the photos that are presented in front of me as “rule breakers” still follows the principles set out by the Rules of Thirds in some form. If you don’t know the Rule of Thirds you are honestly short changing your photographic potential.
Familiarize and set out with the goal to take great photos!

Title: Toxicology.
One of my favorite genres of graffiti / street art is when a street artist seeks out and defaces public advertisements. I’ve heard this referenced as a “BUGA-UP” by artists and it always stuck in my head. So what is BUGA-UP? Billboard Utilizing Graffitist Against Unhealthy Promotions or BUGA-UP is a radical street art movement that originally set out targeting smoking billboards. While their goal started with smoking billboards it quickly branched out to the fashion world and their negative image campaigns. The goal is to show the product for what it really is, does, and can do.
So there you have it… the true beauty in advertising.

sRGB vs. Adobe RGB - What should you use?
Ken Rockwell explains it in further detail (www.kenrockwell.com/tech/adobe-rgb.htm) … but the short version to the story is ALWAYS sRGB, never ever never use Adobe RGB. Evah!
