Title: Girl Talk.It has been forever and a day since I’ve blogged! I fully apologize and not that it’s an excuse, but the past few months have been a whirlwind of photos upon photos. I know - lame sauce! So on to the photo above: this photo was taken this summer at the Yassou! Greek Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The image came to me during an “in between” moment of downtime… the live entertainment was changing on the stage and the crowd was taking the opportunity to sample the eats. You can tell these young ladies are having a ball and while I think I know what they are talking about… I just wish I knew for 100% certainty. Whatever the subject - they are INTO IT! This photo also showcases everything I love and aspire to achieve in my street photography shots. The photo has conversation, facial expressions, movement, interest and the right balance of depth of field to POP the subjects of the frame.

Title: Vocal Strength.Today I’m sharing an adorable photo that illustrates the power of Depth of Field and Negative Space.Of course I’m totally into the facial expression on the boy as well, love this shot!As I look at this photo I’m also honored that my friend and singer-songwriter friend Casey Stratton asked me to help him out with this program. He has done amazing things at the Boys & Girls Club with their music program and for their first time on a stage… these kids rocked!Outtake from the Boy’s & Girls Club of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth’s “Music Makers Spring Concert 2013” that was held at the Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Title: Footsoldiers. The photo above might be my favorite race photo that I’ve ever taken. I love the low perspective and how I broke the “classic rule” of portrait work by not including the faces in this portrait. Colors for days and summertime sun saturations are all over the place in this picture… it just pops!

Title: Meat Market.Outtake from the 2013 West Michigan Beer Festival. I’m not a meat eater, but I knew this shot would be a winner and had to take it! From the cold winter air, the warm turkey legs, and that steam. Looking at this photo takes me back and I can smell the aroma as if it was yesterday.

Title: Taking Hold of the Moment.Every once in a while you need to take a portrait where the focus is not on your subject’s face. I often find with shooting musicians you have to imagine their instruments as their “second” face.Just a thought… and things I think about when shooting the shots!
